Subject: Drop the Evictions
Tamer Abaza and Rakan Abushaar:
I am writing in support of the tenants at 227 Bank and 178 Nepean. I am demanding that you:
- Withdraw all of your eviction applications against these tenants
- Meet with the tenant committee to discuss the situation
- Stop communicating with tenants individually and only communicate with the tenants through their tenant committee, Bank Block Tenants: bankblocktenants@gmail.com
Your plan to demolish rent-controlled housing and evict all tenants is the last thing this neighbourhood needs right now. I vehemently oppose what you are trying to do. Considering Bank Block Tenants are low-income, and many are seniors or have some form of disability, your evictions amount to violence and would cause untold damage to their lives.
Tamer and Rakan: you have made a fortune from displacing working class tenants in Ottawa. Your livelihoods have been exposed. You can no longer hide from your actions. The displacement must stop.
I stand with Bank Block Tenants and will continue to do what it takes to make sure my neighbours remain indefinitely housed at Bank Block.
Drop the evictions.
