Tamer Abaza
Tamer Abaza is the co-founder and CEO of Smart Living Properties. One of Tamer’s earliest investment properties is 240 Blackburn Ave, which he purchased in 2007 and is now owned by one of his numbered holding companies. Another of his earliest properties is 140 Osgoode Street which he purchased in 2008 and co-owns with one of his acquaintances Zaid Khalifeh. Tamer and Rakan Abushaar started Takyan Consulting and Development Inc. in 2012, which they rebranded as Smart Living in 2017. For years, Tamer has refused to meet with the tenants he is forcing from their homes. Bank Block Tenants are demanding to meet with Tamer to demand he drop the evictions.
Rakan Abu Shaar
Rakan Abushaar is SLP’s Chief Operating Officer. A week after Bank Block Tenants collectively delivered their demand letter to the SLP head office on Argyle, a short walk from Bank Block, Rakan submitted desperate op-eds to the Ottawa Citizen and the University of Ottawa’s student newspaper, the Fulcrum. He repeats that SLP “exceeds” and “goes beyond” what’s required of them by law. Rakan is on the defensive, because he knows he has made a career and amassed a fortune from displacing tenants and charging exorbitant rents.
Rowland Gordon
Rowland Gordon was recently promoted from Chief Business Officer to Vice-President, Asset Management, after the Osgoode Chambers mass eviction. Rowland, or Ro as he is also known, is often the face of each mass eviction. While Tamer and Rakan refuse to come out of hiding to meet tenants, Ro is on the front lines to intimidate tenants face-to-face.
Jules Lauzon
Jules Lauzon is SLP’s Vice President, Development and Construction. He is the main SLP point person for the Bank Block development application.
